Senkou is the
Japanese for "Flash of Light and Inspiration". Made by folding and hammering multi layers of steel to produce the floating mist Damascus-type blades of Molybdenum steel with additional of Cobalt,Vanadium and Chrome. This process of laminating different types of steel means the cutting edge can be extremely sharp but the blade retains flexibility and strength.  The handles are made from Micarta (multi layers of linen and resin) and have a stainless steel inlay, which can be engraved. Chef,Santoku, Nakkiri and Carving knives are made of 63 Layered steel. Rest of knives are made of 37 layered steel.

Amazing hardness of this material is 64-66HRC(Rockwell hardness test)which is among hardest steel used for kitchen knives. Powdered High Speed Steel is sandwiched by 13 Chrome Stainless Steel for protection against corrosion. This series knives are superior for sharpness and maintenance for re-sharpening due to special alloy steel which
is
made from stainless-steel and sandwiched high purity iron ore with low temperature gas reduction method. Tojiro DP knives are made in the ‘Honwarikomi’ method where a carbon steel plate is encased front, top, and back in stain-resistant steel. As a result, the cutting edge of the blade is as sharp and durable as a carbon steel knife, while the stain-resistant steel outer layer makes this knife very easy to maintain.Tojiro’s Honwarikomi knives use high-quality Swedish carbon steel and 13% chromium stain-resistant steel in their construction.
 
This
pure steel are known for their extraordinary sharp
ness, long edge life and excellent sharpenability (low burr formation). The steels are supplied unhardened with instructions for hardening and annealing (to a final hardness of approx. 60-62 HRC(Hard Rockwell test).
